SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, June 18, 2009 – As part of an ongoing effort to reduce the number of heat-related athletic injuries in secondary schools, today at its 60th annual meeting and clinical symposia at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center in San Antonio, the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) released an inter-association task force consensus statement which includes comprehensive recommendations on heat-acclimatization guidelines for secondary school athletics programs. The statement appears in the June 2009 issue of the Journal of Athletic Training, NATA’s scientific publication.

Columbia Blowfish Start 2009 Season

USC Sports Medicine Center will again be the Sports Medicine provider for the 2009 Columbia Blowfish.  As part of the USC School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics, USC Sports Medicine has the resources to provide comprehensive Sports Medicine care for the Blowfish.  Those resources include Sports Medicine Trained Orthopaedic Surgeons, Orthopaedic Hand and Upper Extremity Sports Medicine Surgeon, Primary Care Sports Medicine Physicians, and Certified Athletic Trainers.  In addition to the Blowfish, USC Sports Medicine works with USC, South Carolina State University, Benedict College, Columbia City Ballet, and over 20 high school and middle schools.
